Welcome to Crystal Lake

Confessions of a Cosplayer: Tommy Lawrence

Welcome to another installment of “Confessions of a Cosplayer”. Each week I will feature a cosplayer in the Friday franchise who I either know personally or through social media. As time moves on, I will also be focusing on other iconic horror characters from other franchises then I will have horror inspired cosplayers.
If you are a horror cosplayer or know someone who is a horror cosplayer and would like to be featured on a weekly spotlight please reach out to me on Facebook, Instagram or send me an email at SouthJerseyJason@gmail.com

What is your first memory of watching a Friday the 13th movie?
Seeing sack head through the window behind Ginny running toward his cabin at the end of part 2 while watching it on TV as a kid.

What is your favorite Friday the 13th movie?
I think maybe my absolute favorite is part 3.

What made you get into the art of cosplaying (how old were you? Where did you first show off your cosplay, do you design your own clothing, hood, hockey mask etc.?  If not, who do you use to help with your costume?)
I started out playing Michael Myers at 17 years old and what got me into
cosplay was my cousin dressed as Myers and  scared my mom really bad on a Halloween night. The fear I saw on her face made me want to scare others just like that. As far as my Jason cosplay play goes, I first showed it off in 2016 at a local haunted house I volunteer at every Halloween Season. I bought the ribs, knees, spine and gloves from J3 Jason Costumes. My hood and mask came from Devils Latex and my wife designed the costume and weapons.

How many versions of Jason costumes do you have?  Do you have plans to showcase more costumes?
I only have one as of right now but my wife is currently developing an even better version.

Do you attend conventions?  If so which ones do you attend?  Are there any you recommend for someone who has never attended?  What advice would you give to someone who has never attended a convention as a cosplayer?
I haven’t attended any conventions as of yet but I do volunteer at Scarview- West Virginia’s premier haunted house where we see between 5 to 10 thousand people each Halloween season.  I also show up  to local meet and greets to take pictures with Jason fans.

What advice would you give to a first time cosplayer?
My advice would be to learn everything you can about the character you want to portray.

Who are some of your favorite cosplayers that you follow on social media or personally know?
I follow yours of course ! I also follow Jason takes Facebook  and I think Cody Huskins has the best JGTH costume out there!

Do you have any social media accounts for your cosplay that you would like to promote?
You can find me on Facebook- West Virginia’s Jason Voorhees and on IG @creepmuzik.  My video editor The Neon Turtle and I shoot promotion videos for the haunt ( Scarview) as well as remaking scenes from the series itself.
