Welcome to Crystal Lake

Confessions of a Cosplayer: Tariq Rushmore

Welcome to another installment of “Confessions of a Cosplayer”. Each week I will feature a cosplayer in the Friday franchise who I either know personally or through social media. As time moves on, I will also be focusing on other iconic horror characters from other franchises then I will feature horror inspired cosplayers.
If you are a horror cosplayer or know someone who is and would like to be in a future spotlight, please reach out to me on Facebook, Instagram or send me an email at SouthJerseyJason@gmail.com

What is your first memory of watching a Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street movie?
My first memory of watching a Friday the 13th is Jason Lives. My first memory of watching NOES was the “Dream Master” when Alice was fighting Freddy with her Karate skills she learned from her brother.

What is your favorite Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street movie?
Friday the 13th part 7: The New Blood and A Nightmare on Elm Street part 4: The Dream Master. My Freddy cosplay is based off of the style of Freddy in this film.

What made you get into the art of cosplaying (how old were you? Where did you first show off your cosplay, do you design your own clothing, hood, hockey mask etc.?  If not, who do you use to help with your costume?)
Watching people with screen accurate cosplays and showing them off at conventions. I first showed off my cosplays a few years ago at the NYC Halloween Parade on a float. James Ingram from J3 Jason Costumes created my costumes. I get all my Freddy pieces from the Darkrider Freddy group pages. The sweater, glove, Fedora and mask were purchased from 4 different artists that provided screen accuracy replicas.

How many versions of Jason and Freddy costumes do you have?  Do you have plans to showcase more costumes?
I have 3 versions of Jason costumes, “The New Blood”, “Jason Takes Manhattan” and “Freddy vs. Jason”. I plan on doing “Jason Goes To Hell”. At the moment I only have 1 Freddy costume. I do not plan on doing any more versions of Freddy.

Do you attend conventions?  If so which ones do you attend?  Are there any you recommend for someone who has never attended?  What advice would you give to someone who has never attended a convention as a cosplayer?
Unfortunately I have not attended a convention yet.

What has been your best experience as a cosplayer?
As a cosplayer just having a whole crowd of over 30 people surrounding me for a picture with me individually since they said I had the best Freddy or Jason costume they ever saw.

What advice would you give to a first time cosplayer?
Just be natural so it looks more realistic to the people.

Who are some of your favorite cosplayers that you follow on social media or personally know?
@omega_shrinecosplay and @el_fet Check them out on Instagram

Do you have any social media accounts for your cosplay that you would like to promote?
Yes; my Instagram is @horrorcosplay_flyty and my Facebook is “Fly Ty Horrorcosplay Page”
